Word Impostor Game Overview

1. Gather Your Group

Start by having one player click "Create Game" on the homepage to host a room. They will receive a unique 5-character Room Code. Share this code with your friends so they can join. Word Impostor requires at least 3 players, but is highly recommended for 4-8 players.

2. Reveal Your Secret Role

When the host starts the round, everyone's screen will update. Check your device privately! You will either be a Civilian or the Impostor.

  • Imposter
The ImpostorYou don't know the secret word! Observe the hints, blend in, and survive the vote to steal the win.

3. The Clue Phase

Take turns going around the group saying exactly one single word as a clue. Your clue must prove to the other civilians that you know the secret word. However, if your clue is too obvious, the Impostor will easily guess what the secret word is! If you are the Impostor, you must try to blend in by observing the clues of others and saying something vague that might fit.

4. Voting and Winning

After everyone gives their clue, the group discusses who they think the fake is. Once a consensus is reached, players cast their votes.

💡 Pro Tips from the Devs

Be Specific, But Not Obvious

If the word is "Ocean", saying "Water" is too easy for the impostor to figure out. Saying "Titanic" proves you know it without giving away the exact definition.

The "In the Dark" Twist

Want a harder challenge? Enable "In the Dark" mode when hosting. The impostor won't be told they are the impostor—they'll just receive a completely different secret word!
